More Game Day Dresses!

These dresses were a little more involved than the last dresses. These are made from a sturdier material and they have a zipper up the back. Each dress has a removable bow.

Striped Seersucker Dress

This dress was made from seersucker fabric I bought at Joann's . I started by making the skirt piece long enough to wrap around my waist twice then I ruffled it and attached it to a wide waistband which closed in the back with two buttons.  The top piece was a trapezoid shape. I ruffled the top and the bottom then I attached the bottom to the waist band and the top to the collar piece that tied in the back.  This was one of my more complicated dresses, but I love all of the gathering and the summery look it has!

Strapless Ruffle Dress

Not all projects turn out as they were intended. This dress was originally supposed to be a one shoulder ruffle dress, but when you don't use a pattern (like Devon and I don't) then you have to work with your mistakes! This is how I arrived at the strapless version, which I think turned out pretty cute anyway. There is an elastic band around the waist, around the top of the bust line, and in the back below the rectangle of fabric that goes across. The material has no "give" to it which is the reason that either elastic, a zipper, or buttons had to be used. The fabric is from JoAnns, as usual ;)

Comfy Cotton Dress

We have a crush on low back dresses. It seems like every time we design & make a dress we leave the back real low or have a cut out on the back. This dress was fun to make but took  a lot of brain power trying to figure out how to piece it all together. Using my dress-form we actually created a pattern for the dress out of paper we cut up and pinned to the dress-form. The gray fabric is from JoAnns and is a really soft cotton. Its thick enough to hold some shape though. This dress would look great in lots of different colors but the gray allows for fun accent colors in accessories!

Cruise Dress

I love cruises! Best vacation you could ever take. So of course I love making dresses to wear during my cruise. This particular dress was made for my cruise last summer, on the Oasis of the Seas. I used a silky cotton fabric that I bought at JoAnn Fabrics. It is super light weight and flows nicely. Best part about this dress, it only took me about an hour to make! Two pieces for the front meet the middle band of fabric that tie in the back and then the skirt piece is attached below that. I used a couple hook and eyes to connect the halter portion around my neck.
